Duties and Responsibilities

The George & Anne Ryan Institute for Neuroscience at the University of Rhode Island invites applications for a tenure-track academic year/calendar year position.

The George & Anne Ryan Institute for Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary research institute that is focused on discovering and developing disease-modifying therapies for neurodegenerative diseases. We are building a faculty with a strong record of successful laboratory and/or clinical research that support our mission of integrating discovery science, translational medicine, education and community engagement to identify and deliver tomorrow’s treatments today.

The successful candidate will have an appointment in an academic department of the University of Rhode Island as well as an appointment to the Ryan Institute. A determination on the status of the position (Academic Year or Calendar Year) will be made at the time of hire. The candidate will be expected to establish a basic science or clinical research program in an area that complements the mission of the Ryan Institute and is supported by extramural funding. The successful candidate will also contribute to the University’s teaching mission and participate in service activities.

Maintain a robust research program that is supported by extramural funding and consistent with the Ryan Institute’s focus on the discovery and development of disease-modifying therapies for neurodegenerative diseases.

Maintain a high level of scholarly activity as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and/or patents and presentations at national and international meetings.

Contribute to the graduate and undergraduate teaching missions of the University by mentoring graduate students and teaching graduate and undergraduate courses for the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program and the college providing the primary academic appointment.

Serve on departmental, Institute, college and University committees

Required Qualifications

REQUIRED:

1. Ph.D., M.D., M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree.

2. Demonstrated active and productive research program in an area complementary to the Institute’s focus on the study of neurodegenerative diseases.

3. Demonstrated record of research productivity as evidenced by publications and/or patents and/or presentations at national and international meetings.

4. Demonstrated record of success in obtaining extramural funding to support research program.

5. Evidence for eligibility for appointment as Associate Professor (tenure track or tenured).

6. Demonstrated ability to teach in neuroscience, cell/molecular biology or related field.

7. Demonstrated proficiency in written communications skills.

8. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.

9. Demonstrated experience working with diverse groups and or populations.

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED:

1. Evidence of successful research collaborations.

2. Evidence of successful and productive mentoring of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.

Environmental Conditions

The incumbent is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
