The position is Non-Tenure Track Faculty; Full-time academic year appointment.

Appointment is for 3 years with expected renewal contingent on funding.

Anticipated Appointment Date: October 2017

Basic Function:

Responsible for the overall academic administration of the BS Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) Program with average enrollment of 100 students in Kingston. This program is accredited by NAACLS and is affiliated with 3 Rhode Island hospitals for clinical training.

Responsible for oversight of clinical faculty, several adjunct faculty and support staff.

Teaching responsibilities may include:

Introductory Medical Microbiology, Introductory Medical Laboratory Sciences, Diagnostic Microbiology, Virology, and URI 101 Planning for Academic Success.

Provide supervision of clinical and professional practice of course work related to clinical training for the students.

Participate in the overall administration and management of the internship component of the MLS program (MLS 401-451, 32 credits); Assure accreditation standards are met.

Assist/advise in the curricular development of undergraduate courses and programs in MLS.

Hold regular office hours and advise students in the program.

Participate in departmental and/or college matters related to the program.

Coordinate with MS MLS Program at URI Providence Campus.

Qualifications

Required:

1. Earned doctorate in Microbiology, Medical Laboratory Science or related discipline at time of application.

2. National certification by ASCP, NCA, AAB, NRMM, AACC, or similar national organization at the time of application or obtained within 3 years of appointment for continued employment.

3. One year or more of experience teaching in medical laboratory science.

4. Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.

5. Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills.

6. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse and underrepresented groups.

Preferred:

1. Demonstrated experience in clinical microbiology/biochemistry laboratory setting.

2. Experience in high enrollment student advising.

3. One year or more of teaching experience in microbiology.
