Position is full-time calendar year, limited to 06-30-2018 with extension contingent upon funding approval.

Duties and Responsibilities

Application Deadline: This is an open until filled search. First consideration will be given to applications received by August 11, 2017. BASIC FUNCTION:

Provide academic advising to undergraduates in The College of Education and Professional Studies (CEPS). Ensure that student’s progress toward graduation in a timely and systematic way. Carry out recruitment and admission responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Dean.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Advise and monitor progress of CEPS majors, including education majors and Teacher Education Scholars (TES) ensuring progress toward graduation in a timely manner.

Initiate student conduct and review course loads, degree requirements and academic progress. Provide intrusive advising outreach, as appropriate.

Work closely with the Assistant Dean in the college’s academic review processes.

Assist with and attend university events on behalf of the college such as meet the university and welcome days along with planning and executing of programs in residence halls, working evenings and weekends, as required.

Advise in orientation sessions.

Support student needs in the summer and during breaks throughout the calendar year.

Teach URI 101 for majors as required.

Work closely with the Office of Teacher Education (OTE) to provide students with up-to-date information related to the college’s requirements for internship, practicum and student teaching.

Be available to attend meetings and to participate on committees on both the Providence and Kingston campuses as requested.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform other duties as required.

LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

Personal computers and printers; word processing, database management, and spreadsheet software; Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access) and Internet applications.

Required Qualifications

REQUIRED:

1. Master’s degree.

2. Minimum of three years’ experience in higher education working with diverse populations.

3. Minimum one year experience providing academic advising.

4. Minimum one year experience working with adult students.

5. Demonstrated organizational skills.

6. Demonstrated supervisory experience.

7. Demonstrated strong interpersonal sand verbal communication skills.

8. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

9. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office and Internet applications.

10. Demonstrated knowledge of personal computer hardware.

11. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED:

1. Master’s degree in college student personnel, counseling, education or related field.

2. Demonstrated ability to utilize current social media applications, on-line advising and presentation technology.

3. Demonstrated experience with Sakai (or similar platform) and student records systems (preferably PeopleSoft).

4. Demonstrated experience with Starfish systems.

5. Demonstrated assessment skills.
