Job Description Summary, Duties and Responsibilities, Required Qualifications and Preferred Qualifications

The Department of Political Science at the University of Rhode Island anticipates an opening for a faculty position in the area of International Relations with specialization in International Organizations. This is a tenure-track, academic year appointment at the rank of assistant professor to commence in the Fall of 2018.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Applicants will be expected to teach undergraduate political science courses in the area of international politics that serve as requirements for both the Political Science and the new International Studies & Diplomacy undergraduate degrees as well as teach other courses in the International Relations graduate program.

Expected to publish original research in the field of international politics and advise undergraduate students.

Provide service to the department, the university and the profession.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED:

1. Ph.D., or expectation of completion of degree requirements by appointment date of September 1, 2018, in Political Science, International Relations, or synonymous field.

2. Primary or secondary specialization in the area of International Organizations.

3. Evidence of college level teaching commensurate with level of academic experience.

4. Demonstrated ability to teach introductory political science course in the area of international politics.

5. Demonstrated evidence of research in the field of international politics with scholarly work commensurate with level of academic experience.

6. Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations or in diverse environments.

PREFERRED:

1. Research expertise in at least one of the following or related areas: diplomacy, human rights, international law, environmental justice, food security, international migration, political asylum, or refugee flows.

2. Internationally relevant experience such as working with international organizations, conducting international fieldwork, or strong foreign language skills.
